The announcement, at 4:00 PM on a Friday afternoon, represented the most important declaration in close to 2,000 years of Jewish history. The Palestine Post, a newspaper published for the English-speaking audience published a one-page, 2-sided, broadsheet that has become a rare and exceptional collector’s item, running in the thousands of dollars. It almost never got published. Upon the declaration of the State, the surrounding Arab armies immediately attacked. Jerusalem had power failures. The Linotype machines started working at 1:00 AM and the iconic paper became a cherished part of history.
